Episode 120

Villanueva.JPG

Last year, as part of "Money for Your Movements, A Social Justice Fundraising Conference," organized by Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training (GIFT), Babelito and FavyFav met Edgar Villanueva, an expert on social justice philanthropy. As the keynote speaker of the conference, Edgar spoke about his book, Decolonizing Wealth: Indigenous Wisdom to Heal Divides and Restore Balance. This book is a provocative analysis of the dysfunctional colonial dynamics at play in philanthropy and finance. In this episode, FavyFav calls Villanueva to talk about his new book, his career as a philanthropist for Native American communities, and the type of colonial traumas surrounding wealth accumulation in this country. Stay tuned till the end to hear some music recommendations from Babelito, and as always make sure to send your questions to AskLWLPod@gmail.com and we might read them on a future episode. #podsincolor #supportbrownpodcasts #supportlatinxpodcasts #lwlpod

For the Love of Roma

Episode 113

roma-netflix-mexico-city.jpg

Oh… you didn't like our review of Roma?! Ok… we see you. After we released our “Episode 111: Roma Redux,” in which Babelito and FavyFav deconstruct Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, we received so many responses that we decided to do a Listeners Letters Episode dedicated to this film. Is Roma more than a win for Mexico? Is Cleo more nuanced than appears at first sight or just an underdeveloped character? Los chicos de LWL reconsider several points of the film and re-affirm others after listening to your comments. Thank you everyone who sent us emails, and please remember that as always you can direct your questions to AskLWLPod@gmail.com and we might read them on a future episode. A big special thank you to Myte from Cabronas y Chingonas Podcast for editing this episode for Favy because he was a mess this week! #podsincolor #supportbrownpodcasts #supportlatinxpodcasts #lwlpod
